With the distillery dating back to 1881 we have quite a bit of historical correspondence around the place. Dating back to 1889, these letters illuminate Bunnahabhain's past. On the left is a letter from the management of that day, informing the Bunnahabhain distillery manager that 'dramming', the practice of allowing workers a non-duty paid drink during the working day, is to be halted on orders from The Board. The second letter is a detailed, handwritten description of the distillery down to the type and number of valves beneath each still.
Most of the distillery correspondence is now stored in the Glasgow University archives for safekeeping. If you want to tell us about your Bunnahabhain experiences, email us or even send us a letter.
